Pretty peonies

I love the idea of having a fruitful garden and calm, uncluttered home interior.

I have neither but I am going to pretend I do with the following photos ;)

I am also joining in with this week's Floral Friday by Emily Quinton at Make Light.

First birthday celebrations

A very belated post but things have been a little busy around here, but we certainly celebrated E's first birthday making a full weekend of it.

On Friday, his actual birthday, we opened some presents, went to the zoo and had some cake, just the three of us.

On Saturday we had a small family party, opened some more presents, eat some more cake and played with new toys.

On Sunday we did some more playing and eat some more cake with friends.

It was perfect in every way and E had a great time. Yes, I still can't believe he is one but I am just about getting used to the fact that he is no longer a baby and is definitely a toddler. My toddler.

Treasury Tuesday....Decorating every room

So this week's treasury was 'redecorate any room in your home'. Well we have spent the last five and a half years decorating every room in this blooming house and I am very happy to say they are all done.

That is, apart from artwork and pictures. We have some up and about and we are lucky to have lots of artist friends so our favourite piece was acquired by swapping a guitar - there's no way we could afford it otherwise! I am also known for not wanting to commit to nails in the wall. I like to be able to change my mind, so the Victorian picture rail that is in almost every room certainly helps with that.

Therefore my treasury this week is various pieces of artwork, some originals, some prints. All, seemingly quite graphic. This is because I actually struggled to find much good artwork that weren't. This weekly searching on Etsy has certainly reminded me how much rubbish/not my taste items there are on there. It also often makes me think I could do better, and maybe one of these days I should.

Anyway, enough of the blabbering here are my picks...

The Gallery: 24 hours - the highlights

Tara over at Sticky Fingers has set this week's Gallery prompt as 24 hours. This one had me a little stumped as I couldn't just delve into my archives to find something and needed to actually take some photos. I also forgot until yesterday.

Not that this made much difference as my last few weeks have been a lot about getting organised for the arrival of Baby B, washing and cleaning. All pretty dull. And yesterday wasn't any exception so I decided to focus on the graphic and intriguing disguised in the mundane.

So here it is, my 24 hours, Tuesday this week...

Bump & Grass
Celebrating the sunshine by wearing my trainers for the first time in months!

Ickle shoes
One 'last' trip to stock up on baby essentials and ended up buying more unnecessary treats.

Hoover
Hoovering (again!).

The boy
Quick relax and cup of tea with Charlie.
Mat
Welcome home.

Bed
And to bed...(never realised before how much this looked like a smiley monkey!)

I am now off to make another cup of tea and enjoy looking at everyone elses 24 hour posts. And guess what, Charlie boy is sat in exactly the same position as yesterday! Some things never change.

[ . . 30 before 30 . . ] 4. Pay off a credit card

The past few years have certainly been busy and expensive. All our own fault I hasten to add!

We got married and had an amazing honeymoon to Singapore, Bali and Hong Kong in 2008.

Since we bought our house five years ago we have had a lot of work done including re-doing/decorating every room in the house at least once and in 2009 we had the roof fully re-tiled, and moved the position of the upstairs bathroom to make the most of the space.

Then last year we decided that we would have one last ‘big’ holiday to Japan before we tried for a family. This was not cheap – once in a lifetime – but certainly not cheap!

So, here we are a few years later, happy and with many memories but also the debt that came with it. As we start to tighten our belts so I can stay off work for a while with Baby B in 2011 we are starting to get ourselves back to ‘zero’. One credit card down, a few more to go!

[ . . 30 before 30 . . ] 24. Photo a day

So, I may as well try and start as I mean to go on and just get stuck in!

Number 24 on my list of 30 things to complete before I'm 30 is to take a photo a day. This isn't a new idea as many have acheived it in the past but I have never suceeded. There's a surprise.

However, I was recently reminded of the idea when I stumbled upon SuzieQ's Flickr account and the set 365. The interesting thing from Suzie's set was that it revolved around her new son. This naturally struck a chord.

So, I doubt I will acheive one photo a day. It may be none for a few days and then four on another. But that's fine. I am not going to get hung-up on the technicalities :)

Here are two to reflect my Saturday.

I will be continually uploading the new photos I take to my flickr account here.

[ . . Wonderful Wednesday . . ]
Christmas 2010

Well, I finally feel like it is Christmas.

The Christmas tree and decorations went up on Sunday, although quite a few less than normal. We were also supposed to be getting a smaller tree but when it came to it we couldn't go any smaller than 5ft! We did figure that next Christmas is likely to be very Christmassy with it being the babies first Christmas and all.

So, I have finished work for Christmas (and the foreseeable future) as has the Mr and I have enjoyed my first mince pie at home today.

It really is Christmas.

Enjoy x

The coming months...

Well I have been very quiet in recent months.

This has been through a mixture of not having anything to say, and then having too much to say and not trusting myself to keep quiet.

I may have finally reached a happy medium so I hope over the coming months to share my thoughts and feelings once more on numerous topics such as:

INTERIORS
I am constantly inspired by features I see on the Internet and thoroughly enjoy my copy of LivingEtc every month. This combined with the fact that the lounge/dining room decoration is progressing I may soon be able to splash out on some accessories for the room :) Oh and then there is the fun job of decorating a nursery!!!!!

CRAFTINESS
This has been far too lacking in recent months (..ahem years!). I always seem to have the desire but somehow not the motivation. I think I am always a little scared of disappointing myself with an inferior finished product. Anyway, as I continue to generally chill out and realise that nothing really matters that much - and be inspired by Christine's 52 crafts in 52 weeks I hereby declare that I will make something in the coming months

PENDING PARENTHOOD
Now, I doubt I will be turning into Nigella and becoming a perfect mother and general homemaker, however I do hope to share some of my journey into this scary world. After already spending hours on the Internet looking at Mothercare, Mamas and Papas, John Lewis and wondering if I will suddenly feel the urge to make homemade pickle I feel there is a long way to go. For a start there are still 26 weeks until March 1st...

Well that should keep us going for now so I do hope you will join me in this journey. And if not, well I will continue to type away to myself.

Have a lovely evening,

Lx

June flowers

So last Saturday I awoke to this:

As it was our wedding anniversary the day after I put it down to that and thought how much I love my gorgeous husband.

But then this morning I awoke to this:

A girl could get used to this! Although soon there won't be any flowers left in the garden.

Ps. Sorry for the lack of posts, I decided to stop putting pressure on myself to do 'everything' but it seems I took that a little too literally - so... I hope to see you soon

Where have I been?

So it's been a while since I blogged. I am not really sure why, mostly I have been:

- working
- sleeping
- catching up on chores
- working
- feeling a bit ill
- catching up with friends
- working

Umm, relatively normal then?!

Home

Well a few years after originally joining Flickr (in January 2007) I have rejoined for my new incarnation here. And today I have spent a day at home and there was some wonderful light so I got the iphone out and started 'clicking'.
